Purpose
At Clubclass English Language School, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices across all areas of our operations. We believe in leading by example through daily eco-friendly habits, community initiatives, and responsible resource management.
Policy Objectives
Our Environmental Responsibility Policy aims to:
- Minimise waste and promote sustainable resource usage.
- Encourage environmentally responsible behaviour among staff and students
- Support community-based environmental initiatives
- Contribute to the protection of Malta’s natural environment and ecosystems
Key Commitments
3.1 Clean and Organised Workspaces
- Staff are required to maintain clean, clutter-free desks and surrounding areas during and at the end of each shift.
- All trash must be disposed of in appropriate bins, and workstations should be wiped down to maintain hygiene and a tidy appearance.
- Shared workspaces must be left clean and ready for the next user.
3.2 Waste Reduction, Separation, and Sustainable Printing
- We provide separate bins throughout our complex to facilitate the segregation of recyclable materials, such as plastics, paper, and cans, supporting responsible waste management.
- Employees are encouraged to reduce paper use by utilising digital tools such as email and cloud storage.
- When printing is necessary, duplex (double-sided) printing should be used.
- Unnecessary printing should be avoided to support the school’s sustainability efforts.
- Sensitive printed documents must be securely stored or shredded.
3.3 Environmental Initiatives
- Clubclass organises annual clean-up events in local communities to help protect Malta’s natural environment.
- We actively collect plastic bottles and cans, which are exchanged through Malta’s BCRS scheme.
- All proceeds from BCRS recycling are donated to local animal shelters, linking environmental responsibility with social good.
- A reverse osmosis water dispenser is available free of charge to all staff, reducing single-use plastic bottle consumption and promoting sustainable hydration.
3.4 Energy Efficiency and Climate Control
- Air-conditioning units should be set to 24°C in summer and 25°C in winter to optimise energy use while maintaining comfort.
- Staff are encouraged to switch off air-conditioning units when rooms are unoccupied to conserve energy.
- Classroom lights and air-conditioning automatically turn off when the room key is disengaged from the wall socket, preventing unnecessary energy use when rooms are empty.
- Energy-saving lighting is installed throughout the entire complex to reduce electricity consumption and lower our carbon footprint.
3.5 Sustainable Communication Practices
- We utilise electronic business cards in place of printed versions to reduce paper waste and support eco-friendly communication.
3.6 Employee and Student Engagement
- Staff and students are encouraged to take part in environmental activities and to adopt daily habits that support sustainability.
- Internal campaigns, signage, and communications promote environmental awareness across the school.
3.7 Continuous Improvement and Monitoring
- Department managers are responsible for ensuring daily compliance with cleanliness, energy, and sustainability practices.
- Regular spot checks are conducted to reinforce desk organisation, energy use, and environmental standards.
- Feedback from staff is welcomed to continuously improve our environmental efforts
Monitoring and Accountability
- This policy is reviewed annually by senior management.
- Designated personnel carry out regular checks on workspace cleanliness, energy conservation, and waste reduction efforts.
- Environmental initiatives and progress are reported internally and may be included in stakeholder updates.
